Best of luck, safe hunting. I have personally bought several copies of this book as gifts for my hunting buddies and family. I'm not saying you will get a Boone and Crockett trophy but I did--a non-typical scoring 197 6/8, the only B&C trophy ever in Benton County, Arkansas. The only thing better than this book is to have the priviledge to actually attend one of Charles Alsheimer's seminars. Ron Harp From observing deer year round to developing better hunting tactics, from quality deer management techniques, food plots, phases of the rut, the moon--yes the moon., this book covers it all. Not only will you be a better hunter but throughout the year you will appreciate the complexities of the whitetail deer. You will not be disappointed with this book and I might add, subscribe to the Deer and Deer hunting magazine and buy the calendar for the complete package.
He is still going through this book with a fine toothed comb and loving every page.Excellent. I bought this for my husband for Christmas. We both hunt and manage our land for all types of critters including white tail deer.
The Deer Magnet says they are from a decent sized buck. I wish I would have found sooner. I had a pre-conceived notion I wasn't going to enjoy this book and boy was I wrong. The Deer Magnet makes his way down the road but beforehand tells me to "keep an eye open, that buck could be crossing soon. If nighttime hunting were allowed, that's one dead deer.Coincidence and a little luck; Probably. My buddy heads up the ridge to further scout and take a set til dark.
My real regret is that I have to wait until next November. Ok, quick story. My buddy, his dad (aka The Deer Magnet) and I find ourselves on a road about 2 miles long in some logging country we hunt yearly. Not even six inches from his bootprint is the only other set of deer tracks on this entire road.
Upon walking, we see the Deer Magnets footsteps in the snow from the night before. We decide to walk in to the area this time. I didn't take up hunting until my mid 20's with not much success in the last 10 years.
The pictures were great and Mr Alsheimer's passion for the outdoors really shines through. Hell, this road is long enough that buck could cross anywheres". This book has helped me better understand what I'm doing both right and wrong and to better "think like a deer". At the end of the road we find one set of tracks.
But I know of his record in this country and I believe it's his ability to "think like a deer". The next day it's just my buddy and I out on the same road. I sit at the dead end watching the road. Nighttime comes, we had back to camp.
not only does she love looking at the deer in the book she also loves to watch the deer outside. Very informative. This is our 20 month old daughters favorite book.
Whether you're a beginner hunter or seasoned professional, you're sure to get a lot from this well written guide to one of America's most fascinating and secretive game animals. This is a gorgeous book filled with photographs taken by the author who has spent a lifetime observing and hunting whitetails.
